Ottawa-Kent Red Preview

PrepNation Rankings

PrepNation is out with its Top 25 Pre-Season Teams. They also rank the Top 25 Teams in each region. Two Michigan teams are in the Midwest Region Top 25. Birmingham Brother Rice is #11 and Orchard Lake St. Mary’s is # 24. No other Michigan team made the list.

Pre-Season Top 25 Teams

Here are my Pre-Season Top 25 Teams for 2008. There’s a lot of parity among the top ten teams on the list. I’d group the top three teams into one category and teams four through ten in another. I believe any of the top three teams could claim the number one spot and in fact may on other pre-season rankings. Prep Nation ranked Brother Rice number one in Michigan and number 90 in the U.S. Orchard Lake St. Mary’s was in an honorable mention category. No other Michigan team was ranked.

Super Sophs

Two Michigan players have made the Super Sophs list published by Maxpreps (www.maxpreps.com). Be sure to check out the video highlights that accompany the article. Marine City RB, Jamal Abrams and Birmingham Brother Rice DB, Jimmy Pickens appear on the Top 100 list, published in alphabetical order. Congrats to Jamal and Jimmy.

Detroit Catholic League Central Preview

The college camps are in full swing. Summer conditioning drills are underway. 7×7 leagues give the skill players a chance to show their stuff. And, we’re just over a month away from the beginning of training camp. It’s time to start getting serious about the 2008 season. Here’s the first of my League Previews. Since the Detroit CHSL Central Division is the league I follow most closely and the one where I see the most games, it’s going to be the first to be previewed. I plan to do a preview on a few of the other major leagues, but they won’t have the same kind of detail as the CHSL Central. Any submissions from readers of this site regarding teams and/or players from other leagues will be appreciated and I will use them accordingly when doing those previews. Just click comment under this post and publish your information.
The Central Division preview includes Dearborn Divine Child and UD Jesuit, although the league status of both teams is not official. It appears that neither team will play a full Central schedule, but whether one or both teams will officially move to the Intersectional I Division remains to be announced by the league office. For now, I am including both teams in the Central. (See previous posts on the subject)
